STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Seahawks have wrapped up their prep season and are heading into the 2026 outdoor slate, with both the men's and women's teams coming off third-place finishes at the NEC Indoor Championships.
In the team's first season under head coach Marvin Azor, Wagner was able to put up steady performances across indoor season that will translate well to the 11 meets of its outdoor season.
Freshman Noah Grant was the breakout star of the indoor season, earning Most Valuable Rookie after winning gold in the 200m dash, taking silver with the 4x400 relay team. Entering his second season of outdoor competition after the 2025-2026 season was his first competing in indoor, Julio Tatis is a sprinter who is worth watching as well, putting up massive performances in day two the NEC Indoor Championships that the Seahawks needed to close out strong.
Senior Julio Martinez, after only competing in three meets of indoor season due to injury, won his third gold in pole vault and looks to build on that performance in outdoor season as he works back to competing more regularly. Sophomore Amir Shokry and senior Eskil Njerve join Martinez in pole vault as competitors Azor knows can place well.
Senior Christopher Milillo had a record-breaking indoor season in hammer throw, setting a new program record at the 188th Millrose Games and ultimately finishing third at the NEC Indoor Championships. Azor's group of jumpers, in junior Khalid Brown, junior Jack Mason and sophomore Ty Lawless, each had a solid effort across the entire indoor season that promises similar results in outdoor season. An injury sidelined Mason for the final portion of indoor season, but each of those three can be counted on to put up big performances.
On the women's side, sophomore Christine Manneh put the team on her back at the NEC Indoor Championships and is set to continue her growth in outdoor season after a share of the Most Valuable Performer of the sprints at that meet. Junior June Fernandez, another impactful sprinter for the Seahawks, won silver in the 400m and is in her third year of competition.
Junior Rylee Ferretti puts up incredible performances in the distance events, taking bronze in the 5,000m run after winning the NEC individual cross country title in the fall. In the jumps, sophomore Mia Petersen and graduate Jovana Miloradovic put up a pair of top-ten finishes in triple jump, both steady competitors who performed well across the entire indoor season.
Middle distance runners like junior Magui Calvo-Jorge and Victoria Ann Dziubela have been key for the Seahawks in both individual events and relays, easy to count on when the team needs a big performance in any of their events.
The Seahawks open their season Saturday, March 14 at Stony Brook's Snowflake Classic. The meet is set to begin at 11:30 a.m. EDT.
