BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — The Wagner College men's lacrosse team dropped its first conference game of the 2026 season to LIU at Shark Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Seahawks (2-5, 0-1 NEC) trailed 8-2 at the conclusion of the first period. Senior captain Smith Callaghan and freshman Dylan Popehn were responsible for Wagner's two first quarter scores.
Current NEC Player of the Week senior captain Jake Mitchell tallied his first goal of the afternoon in the second quarter. At the half, the Sharks (6-1, 1-0 NEC) led 15-3 at halftime.
Junior Ian Muchineuta scored his second goal of the year in the third quarter. Muchineuta took advantage of an opening in the middle of the field by firing a shot into the back of the net for Wagner's lone goal of the frame. After three quarters, LIU led 20-4.
Wagner outscored LIU in the fourth period, 2-0, as the Sharks prevailed 20-6. Graduate student Theo Kostakos and Mitchell scored the two points for the Seahawks in the fourth.
Senior Nico Kross and junior Danny McMahon both collected a team-best three ground balls while Kross recorded one caused turnover. Freshman Trenton Rock went 6-14 (42.8%) on face-off opportunities with one ground ball added to his stat line.
Wagner went a perfect 20-20 on clear opportunities, taking 25 shots with 15 on target.
Next up, the Green & White continue conference play by welcoming NEC affiliate Detroit Mercy on Saturday, March 21. The Seahawks and the Titans matchup is set for 11 a.m. on Hamline Field.
