NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — The Wagner College women's basketball team (11-12, 7-5 NEC) took down CCSU (0-23, 0-12 NEC) by a score of 50-41 on Saturday evening at Detrick Gymnasium.
The Seahawks won their first game after taking two straight conference losses to FDU and Le Moyne. Prior to Wagner's loss, the Green & White rattled off four consecutive NEC wins from Saturday Jan, 17 to Thursday, Jan, 29.
Sophomore Keana Foz poured in a career-high 18 points on an efficient 7-9 (77.8%) from the floor to go along with four rebounds and four assists. Foz scored seven points in the fourth quarter alone.
Redshirt junior Klea Kaci scored 10 points while junior Lijirin Doyinsola Modesayor grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds. Redshirt senior Priscila Varela followed with a pair of three-pointers for six points.
As a team, Wagner held a 18-10 advantage in points scored off of turnovers and enjoyed a 22-18 lead in paint points.
From the floor, the Seahawks shot 21-51 (41.2%) and 5-13 (38.5%) from beyond-the-arc; comparatively, the Blue Devils shot 16-47 (34.0%) and 4-12 (33.3%) from deep.
With 7:30 remaining in the game, CCSU cut the lead to just three points. Wagner would go on a subsequent 14-4 run over the next five minutes to balloon a Seahawks lead to 13, 50-37.
In the end, Wagner secured its third conference road win of the season by a score of 50-41.
Next up, the Seahawks host Stonehill on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 2 p.m. in the Spiro Sports Center. Wagner has three straight upcoming home games — Feb. 14 against Stonehill, Feb. 19 against Mercyhurst, and Feb. 21 against Saint Francis.
