Box Score 2 LA JOLLA, Calif. — Wagner softball dropped both games in their second day at the La Jolla Invitational, falling short in the first game to Montana 2-1, then losing their second in a row to hosts UCSD 6-2.
In the first game, freshman starting pitcher
Samantha Lotus gave up only one run through the first five innings. Montana pitching did one better and kept the Wagner bats silent through that same span.
In the sixth, freshman shortstop
Zoe Totaro singled and drove in the tying run, but Montana responded in the bottom half of the frame with a bases-loaded walk. Down 2-1 and with two runners in scoring position with two outs in the top of the 7th, the Seahawks couldn't plate another tying run and fell 2-1.
In the night-cap, Wagner got out in front thanks to RBI-singles from junior third-baseman
Sydnie Trujillo in the first, and sophomore [position] in the second. Like last time however, the Tritons would score all their runs after the Seahawks scored theirs.
The hosts scored a pair of runs to tie the game in the bottom of the second, then they knocked out junior starting pitcher
Jill Theodorou in the fifth inning after plating three runs. UCSD scored one more run in the sixth to make the final score 6-2.
The Seahawks will return to the diamond on Saturday, Feb. 7, for the final two games of the La Jolla Invitational. They will rematch Montana at 2 p.m. EST, then they'll take on Saint Louis at 4:30 p.m. EST.
