Fred King Named Wagner Women’s Soccer Head Coach

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Fred King has been named the new head coach of the women's soccer program at Wagner College, Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Walt Hameline announced Friday.

King comes to Grymes Hill after spending the last four seasons as the women's soccer associate head coach at University of Pennsylvania. Prior to that, King spent 10 years at Saint Joseph's University, where he was elevated to women's soccer associate head coach in 2019. His collegiate coaching experience also includes a stop at Rutgers University, where he served as the women's soccer director of soccer operations for two seasons (2010–11), along with assistant men's soccer coaching roles at Harvard University (2007) and Tufts University (2004–05).

"We are excited to welcome Fred to Wagner," said Hameline. "He brings great experience that will be valuable to our quest for another NEC Championship."

At Penn, King coached eight All-Ivy selections, including four first-team honorees. During his first season on staff, the Quakers set a new single-season program record with seven draws while also adding three victories.

During his time at Saint Joseph's, King helped the Hawks soar to new heights, earning eight Atlantic 10 Championship berths and capturing the 2016 A-10 regular-season title. He was also instrumental in player development, as 25 Hawks earned A-10 all-conference honors and seven were named to all-region squads.

While at Harvard, the Crimson claimed Co-Ivy League Championship honors after posting a 12–3–2 record (5–2 Ivy League), made their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance, and climbed as high as seventh nationally in the NSCAA rankings.

"I'm excited for the opportunity to work with everyone at Wagner College," King said. "I'd like to thank Walt Hameline, Madison Bonamo, Jack McKiernan and Rich Behan for trusting in my vision for the program and for their support throughout the process. I'm proud to be a Wagner Seahawk!"

Outside of the collegiate ranks, King has served as head coach of the East Olympic Development Program since 2010 and previously worked as a State Development Coach for the Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association from 2008–10. He also spent time in the early 2000s coaching the FC Greater Boston Bolts, where he began his professional coaching career.

A 2002 graduate of Goldsmiths, University of London, King was a three-year letter winner and served as team captain of the First XI soccer team. While competing for the University of London Representative team, he also played with Dulwich Hamlet Football Club.
