BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Sophomore infielder
Alayna Giampolo and junior pitcher
Karson Zavala of the Wagner College softball team were named the NEC Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week respectively, the conference announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Giampolo's honor is not only the first in her collegiate career, but also is the first time a Seahawk has been named the Player of the Week since former utility fielder Nora Conway earned the distinction in 2022.
Over the course of the La Jolla Invitational, Giampolo played in all five games and started three of them in the lead-off spot. Giampolo collected seven hits and two walks in 14 plate appearances, leaving the Invitational with a .583 batting average, and a 1.310 OPS. She also knocked in three RBIs, scored six runs, and stole two bases.
In the circle, Zavala was stellar in her last two outings at La Jolla. In her last seven and two-thirds innings, Zavala did not allow a run and struck out 10 batters. Zavala pitched a complete game shutout and collected the win against Montana in Wagner's first victory of the season.
This is Zavala's third NEC Pitcher of the Week honor in her collegiate career, after winning two during the 2025 season.
Additionally, senior infielder
Geanice Morales earned a Prime Performer nod. Morales started all five games in La Jolla, and reached base 11 times in 17 plate appearances, stealing two bases in the process. Her .647 on-base percentage is the highest on the team (minimum 10 PA).
The Seahawks return to the diamond on Friday, Feb. 27 in Orlando, FL, and will take on Dartmouth at 12:30 p.m. in the first game of the Charge On Classic on the campus of UCF.
