BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Wagner College women's soccer junior goalkeeper Abigail Marcello earned her fourth NEC Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season, the conference announced Monday.

Marcello recorded two saves and posted a clean sheet in Wagner's 4-0 victory over LIU on Sunday, helping the Seahawks improve to 4-1 in conference play at the halfway point of the NEC schedule.

The junior has now recorded five shutouts this season, ranking second in the conference. She also ranks second in the NEC in goals-against average (0.923) and save percentage (.829). Marcello has anchored a Wagner defense that has allowed just three goals through five conference matches.

Monday's recognition marks Marcello's fourth weekly honor of the season, extending her program record for the most NEC Defensive Player of the Week awards earned by a Seahawk in a single season.

The Havre de Grace, Md., native first earned NEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors on Aug. 17 after recording 15 saves across two matches. She followed with Defensive Player of the Week recognition on Sept. 14 after posting back-to-back clean sheets against Seton Hall and Saint Joseph's while totaling 10 saves.

Marcello earned her third weekly honor on Sept. 28 after recording three saves and a shutout against Howard.

Marcello and the Seahawks continue NEC action on Thursday, Oct. 15, when they travel to Teaneck, N.J., to face undefeated conference opponent FDU. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Macron Stadium, with live coverage available on NEC Front Row.
