Women's Soccer Rolls Past LIU, 4-0, for Fourth NEC Victory

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Wagner College women's soccer team earned a dominant 4-0 victory over LIU on a rainy Sunday afternoon at LIU Soccer Park.

Despite the wet conditions, Wagner (5-6-2, 4-1-0 NEC) wasted little time getting on the board, as junior Megan Knapp scored her third goal of the season in the 13th minute off an assist from senior Alana Goldsmith to give the Seahawks an early 1-0 advantage.

The Seahawks controlled the offensive action throughout the opening half, outshooting LIU (3-9-1, 3-3-0 NEC) 10-3 while putting seven shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper Abigail Marcello made two saves in the first half to preserve Wagner's 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

Wagner continued its offensive momentum in the second half, doubling its advantage in the 52nd minute when sophomore Riley Frederick found the back of the net to make it 2-0.

The Green & White extended its lead in the 73rd minute, as junior Kara Kilpert scored off an assist from junior Kelly Gallagher to give Wagner a commanding 3-0 advantage.

The Seahawks added their fourth and final goal in the 84th minute when junior Hailey Knapp found the back of the net to seal the 4-0 victory.

Wagner dominated the contest statistically, finishing with a 17-3 advantage in shots and a 14-2 edge in shots on goal.

Marcello finished with two saves to record her fourth clean sheet of the season, as the Wagner defense held LIU without a shot in the second half.

The victory marked Wagner's fourth NEC win of the season, improving the Seahawks to 4-1 in conference play.

Wagner is back in action on Thursday, Oct. 15, traveling to Teaneck, N.J., to face undefeated NEC opponent FDU. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Macron Stadium, with live coverage available on NEC Front Row.
