BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Junior goalkeeper Abigail Marcello earned her third NEC Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season, the conference announced Monday.

Marcello was named NEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week, sharing the honor with Stonehill's Allie Sougaris.

Marcello was outstanding for the Green and White last week, recording a clean sheet in Wagner's 1-0 victory over Howard. The junior made three saves to help the Seahawks remain unbeaten in NEC play.

With the shutout, Marcello improved to three clean sheets this season and eight for her career.

Marcello has been one of the NEC's most in-form goalkeepers as of late, allowing just one goal over her last four matches.

The Havre de Grace, Md., native ranks second in the conference in clean sheets (3), goals-against average (1.00) and save percentage (.818).

Monday's honor marks Marcello's third weekly award of the season. She was named NEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Aug. 17 after recording 15 saves across two games before earning NEC Defensive Player of the Week honors on Sept. 14 after posting back-to-back clean sheets against Seton Hall and Saint Joseph's while making 10 total saves.

Marcello's three NEC Defensive Player of the Week honors are the most by a Seahawk in a single season in program history.

Junior Alana Arjona also earned NEC Prime Performer honors after scoring the game-winning goal in Wagner's 1-0 victory over Howard. Arjona found the back of the net in the 76th minute to give the Seahawks the victory.

Marcello, Arjona and the Seahawks continue NEC action on Thursday, Oct. 1, on the road against New Haven. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. in West Haven, Conn.
