Women’s Soccer Remains Unbeaten in NEC Play With 3-0 Win at New Haven

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The Wagner College women's soccer team remained unbeaten in NEC play with a 3-0 victory over New Haven on Thursday evening at Kathy Zolad Stadium.

Wagner (4-5-2, 3-0-0 NEC) opened the scoring in the 29th minute, as sophomore Vanessa Lovisa found the back of the net at the 28:05 mark to give Wagner a 1-0 advantage. Just over three minutes later, the Green and White doubled their lead on a New Haven (2-9-1, 1-3-1 NEC) own goal, sending Wagner into halftime with a 2-0 advantage.

Wagner added to its lead in the 59th minute. Senior Alana Goldsmith scored at the 58:58 mark to extend the Seahawks' advantage to 3-0. The goal marked Goldsmith's first of the season and the eighth of her career.
The reigning NEC Co-Goalkeeper of the week, Abigail Marcello kept the Chargers off the board throughout the second half despite increased pressure from the New Haven attack. Marcello made five of her six saves after halftime, including four stops in a span of less than 15 minutes following Wagner's third goal.

Marcello finished the night with six saves to earn her fourth clean sheet of the season and help Wagner record its second consecutive shutout.

New Haven held a 13-9 advantage in shots and an 8-4 edge in corner kicks, while Wagner put five of its nine attempts on goal.

The Seahawks return home on Sunday, Oct. 4, to continue NEC play against Stonehill. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. on Hameline Field.
