NORTH EASTON, Mass. – The Wagner College women's basketball team improved to 2-0 in NEC play after a 62–59 road win at Stonehill on Sunday afternoon at Merkert Gymnasium.
The Seahawks (6-7, 2-0 NEC) opened the game with a 21–16 lead after the first quarter and took a 33–25 advantage into halftime. Wagner maintained control through the first three quarters, entering the fourth period ahead 41–35.
Junior Lijirin Doyinsola Modesayor led Wagner with 14 points, adding five rebounds and four assists. Senior Irene Fernandez de Caleya recorded a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds, along with four assists on 5-7 (71.4%) from the floor. Klea Kaci added 12 points off the bench to give the Seahawks three players in double figures while sophomore Keana Foz earned a season-high five steals.
Stonehill made its push in the fourth quarter, eventually taking a six-point lead late and holding a five-point advantage with under one minute to play.
Redshirt senior Priscila Varela hit a corner three-pointer off a pass from Doyinsola Modesayor to tie the game with less than 30 seconds remaining. After a Skyhawks timeout, Varela recorded a steal and scored a break away layup to make it 60-58 with 15 seconds to go.
Wagner scored 21 points in the fourth quarter and finished the game shooting 25-52 (47.2%) from the field.
The Seahawks held a 32–28 rebounding edge over the Skyhawks while outscoring Stonehill 32–16 in points in the paint. Wagner led for more than 32 minutes of game time.
Wagner is now 2-0 in the NEC for the first time since 2022-23, when the Seahawks began their conference slate with a 6-0 mark.
