Women’s Soccer Picked Third In NEC Preseason Poll

Bridgewater, NJ – The Wagner College women's soccer team was picked third in the Northeast Conference (NEC) preseason poll, the conference announced Tuesday.

The program earned its highest-ever NEC preseason ranking, landing third in the 2025 poll after being selected fourth in 2024. Last fall, the Seahawks delivered one of their strongest performances in recent years, finishing 8-5-6 overall and 7-1-2 in NEC play under head coach Phil Casella. Wagner earned the No. 2 seed in the NEC Tournament and advanced to the semifinals, where they fell to third-seeded FDU.

Wagner enters the 2025 season following one of its most consistent performances in recent years, and returns with many key players from last year's playoff team. With increased experience across the roster, the Seahawks are ready to keep that success going.

Howard, the defending regular season champions, earned the top spot in the poll with seven first-place votes. FDU followed in second place with four first-place votes, while Wagner secured the third spot and collected one first-place vote. Rounding out the top-six are CCSU, Stonehill, and LIU.

The rest of the rankings are as follows: Saint Francis U, Mercyhurst, Le Moyne, New Haven, Chicago State, and Delaware State.

The Seahawks will open their 2025 campaign on Thursday, August 14, when they host UMBC at 7:00 pm on Hameline Field.
