Wagner College Athletics Announces 2025 Hall of Fame Class

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Wagner College Director of Athletics Brendan Fahey has announced the four inductees who will be enshrined into the Wagner College Athletics Hall of Fame as the Class of 2025: Vinny Avella '10 (Baseball), Katie Stevens '08 (Softball), Chris Turner '07 (Football), and Edwin Vreedeveld '82, '84 (Master's) (Men's Tennis).
 
These Seahawk legends were selected on the merit of their athletic prowess and overall impact on Wagner's athletic department by the Wagner Athletics Hall of Fame Committee. The induction ceremony will be held on Saturday, October 18th, 2025, before the 5:00pm "Wagner Weekend" football game against CCSU. 
 
The Class of 2025 will be formally enshrined that afternoon beginning at 12:00 pm in the VIP Room, located on the second floor of the Spiro Sports Center, before being publicly recognized at halftime of the football game. All Wagner College Athletics Hall of Fame members are encouraged and welcome to attend the ceremony and a brief reception starting at 11am in the Hall of Fame Room. Light refreshments will be served. 
 
With the addition of these four individuals, the number of members in the Wagner Hall of Fame will grow to 206, each representing the best among the thousands of student-athletes and contributors who have dedicated themselves to enhancing the name of Wagner College. 
 
Vinny Avella '10, Baseball
One of the greatest offensive threats in the history of Wagner College Baseball, Avella holds the overall school records for both home runs (50) and RBI's (165). He also ranks fourth in hits (229), second in doubles (52), third in games played (211), and fourth in at-bats (748). Additionally, Avella ranks among the single-season leaders in home runs (17, 16, and 10) (1st, 2nd, and 9th), RBI's (60 and 48) (1st and 6th), and doubles (16) (7th). A dual threat, Avella was also stellar in the field, registering a school record of 1,470 putouts and recorded three of the top six single-season putout records in Wagner history (450, 441, 419) (1st, 3rd, 6th). Avella also captured NEC Baseball All-Conference Second Team honors during both his sophomore season in 2008 and his senior season in 2010. Additionally, he was named to the prestigious Brooks Wallace Award Watch List in 2009, which recognizes the nation's top collegiate shortstop.

Katie Stevens '08, Softball
Katie Stevens is one of the most decorated players in the history of Wagner College Softball. She ranks in the top four in almost every statistical category, including first in games played (204), second in at-bats (629), first in hits (238), first in runs (160), third in batting average (.378), fourth in doubles (40), third in RBI's (109), second in total bases (334), first in walks (75), third in stolen bases (37), and first in assists (427). She captured the NEC Rookie of the Year award in 2005 and was named to the NEC ACA Honor Roll/Dean's List in 2006. In 2007, she was named the NEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was named to the NEC Softball All-Conference Second Team. During her senior season in 2008, Stevens was named to the NEC Softball All-Conference First Team and was the ECAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Chris Turner '07, Football
A decorated player at wide receiver for the Seahawks, Chris Turner ended his career as Wagner's all-time leader in receiving touchdowns (33), receiving yards (2,863), and receptions (213). Additionally, his 12 touchdown receptions in the 2005 season are still a single-season record. Turner also holds three of the top-10 single-season receptions records, including 66 in 2005 (3rd), 61 in 2004 (4th), and 54 in 2006 (7th). His 952 receiving yards in 2005 are second-most in a single season while his 845 yards in 2004 rank seventh in the single-season record book. Turner holds the single-game receptions record with 15 against La Salle in 2004, the single-game receiving yards record with 202 against Sacred Heart in 2005, and the single-game touchdown receptions record with 4 in 2005. Individually, Turner was an NEC Football All-Conference First Team selection in 2004 and an NEC Football All-Conference Second Team selection in 2006. He was also named a 2004 Don Hansen Second Team All-American and won the 2006 Robb Trophy, given to the best offensive player during Wagner Homecoming Weekend.

Edwin Vreedeveld '82, '84, Men's Tennis
The first inductee into the Wagner College Athletics Hall of Fame for Men's Tennis, Edwin Vreedeveld holds an impressive 52-4 overall singles record during his time on Grymes Hill. Vreedeveld was undefeated during the regular season for two consecutive years of competition from 1983-84 and was team captain for three years. Additionally, he captured a Team Conference Championship and Regional Tournament Championship in doubles as part of the undefeated 1984 campaign. Individually, Vreedeveld captured Men's Tennis All-Conference honors in three of his four years in both singles and doubles competition.
