Wagner Mourns the Passing of Former Football Assistant Coach Mark Murray

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Former Wagner football assistant coach Mark Murray passed away last week.

Murray served as an offensive line coach on Wagner's 1987 national championship staff, playing a key role in one of the most successful seasons in program history.

"Mark was an outstanding coach and an even better person," said Hameline, head coach of Wagner's 1987 national championship team. "He brought tremendous knowledge, toughness, and care for his players every single day. His impact on that team and on the young men he coached will always be remembered."

Beyond Wagner, Murray built an extensive collegiate coaching career with stops at American International College, the University at Albany, Navy, Bowling Green, Yale, Stony Brook, and Case Western Reserve.

Murray also gained professional experience in the Canadian Football League, serving as the offensive line coach for the Toronto Argonauts in 1995 and later as the offensive line and running backs coach for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats from 1999 to 2005.
