STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Wagner swimming and diving teams completed the first half of their split meet against LIU on Friday. Afterwards, they honored their graduating seniors with a post-game ceremony.
LIU started the event with two wins in both 200-yard medley relays, but Wagner bounced back with wins in both 1000-yard freestyles. Sophomore
Gaya Savran finished first in the women's 1000 with a 11:03.14 time, and freshman
Karson Leavitt finished first in the men's 1000 with a 10:07.91 time.
The Seahawks would end up winning six more events throughout the rest of the meet. Freshman
Lillian Clark won two of those events, placing first in both the 200-yard freestyle (24.90), and the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.78). Sophomores
Lovisa Ramsten and
Mia Goodale each picked up event wins in the 100-yard backstroke (58.59), and the 200-yard butterfly (2:12.14) respectively.
On the men's side, sophomore
Florian Schumich placed first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:44.28), and senior
Andrew Ehret placed first in the 200-yard butterfly (2:04.20).
At the end of the meet, the women's team led 72-51, while the men's team trailed 67-60.
The second half of the split meet will take place at the Steinberg Wellness Center in Brooklyn, on Friday, Jan. 30. The first event is set to begin at 5 p.m.
