Phelps, Toporek Highlight First Team, Five Total Seahawks Named To All-NEC Teams

Bridgewater, N.J. — Five Seahawks were named to the Northeast Conference's All-Conference team on Wednesday, highlighted by seniors Bryce Phelps and Jake Toporek.

Joining Phelps and Toporek, graduate Lukas Torres, sophomore Joseph Mennella and freshman Matt Sutera were named to the All-NEC second team as outfielder, designated hitter and second baseman, respectively.

Phelps joined the cohort of three outfielders named All-NEC first team, batting .404 through the regular season for second-highest in conference and .393 in NEC play. He logged 46 hits in conference with 27 runs scored. Phelps was named NEC Player of the Week after opening weekend against Indiana State, batting .727 against the Sycamores with eight hits. The senior has been a top-thirty batting average in Division I baseball, as high as No. 13 on May 13.

Toporek joins Phelps on the first team in the starting pitcher category, establishing himself as a consistent game one starter who could log lengthy outings week in and week out. He finishes the regular season with a 3.29 season ERA, which he worked down to 2.66 in NEC play. He finishes with a perfect 8-0 record, with 82 innings pitched across the 2025 season. Toporek was named NEC Prime Performer three times this season for his outings against LIU, CCSU and Delaware State.

Centerfielder Torres rounds out his graduate season batting .344 through 48 games good for sixth in conference, with 66 hits, 46 runs scored, 38 RBIs and 29 walks. He raised his average to a team-leading .409 in conference play with a 1.023 OPS. His on-base percentage in conference play is eighth in the NEC and his 47 hits are good for third in conference.

Mennella was named second-team designated hitter, batting .290 in NEC play with 31 hits and 29 runs scored in conference. He finishes the regular season with a team-leading 12 home runs and 45 RBIs. He is fifth in conference in home runs hit.

Freshman Matt Sutera was batting .340 in conference at the end of the regular season, with 33 hits and 30 RBIs. Sutera was named NEC Rookie of the Week four times this season, a massive contributor in his first year as a Seahawk. His 11 doubles in conference play are good for fourth-best in the NEC.

The Seahawks begin their NEC Tournament campaign as the No. 2 seed on Thursday, May 22 in a 4 p.m. matchup with No. 3 CCSU. Depending on the results of Thursday's game, Wagner will play Friday, May 23 at either noon or 4 p.m. EST.
