Dover, DE - The Wagner College women's lacrosse team scored a season-high 19 goals to earn its fifth consecutive Northeast Conference (NEC) win of the 2025 season against the Delaware State Hornets on Drass Field on Wednesday evening.
After Delaware State scored the first goal of the game, the Seahawks responded with three straight scores of their own - senior Sophia Colver scored Wagner's first and third goal and graduate student Nia Scott.Â
After 15 minutes of game action, Wagner held a 3-2 lead over Delaware State.
In the second quarter, the Seahawks outscored the Hornets by a score of 7-3.
Colver, senior Katie Siverson, sophomore Amelia Logan, junior Kristina Pisano, senior Ella Marino, and reigning NEC Defensive Player of the Week junior Erin Rooney all found the back of the net in the second period.Â
Amelia Logan would record two goals within the frame, her second goal coming with one second remaining in the half to extend the Seahawks' lead, 10-5.
Out of the intermission, senior captain Kendra Hall scored the first goal of the second half just over one minute into the frame. Hall finished in traffic from a pass from Siverson to put Wagner ahead 11-5.
Pisano and Marino both scored their second goals of the contest later in the third. After three quarters of play, the Seahawks possessed a 13-7 lead over the Hornets.
In the final quarter of play, Wagner outscored Delaware State, 6-2, to prevail by a final score of 19-9.
Freshman Sadie Orefice found the back of the net for the first time as a Wagner Seahawk with 13:17 remaining in the game, putting the ball over the left shoulder of the Delaware State goalkeeper.
From 10:49 in the fourth to 4:20 in the fourth, Wagner strung together five unanswered goals to put the game away - Hall, Marino, Scott, and senior Kendall Tabobandung all scored, with Marino scoring two goals during the stretch.Â
Ella Marino has now recorded four goals in back-to-back games.Â
Defensively, senior Angelina Skowronski caused a team-high four turnovers and collected three ground balls. Sophomore Kendra Hamilton and Rooney both caused two miscues during the game.Â
In net, sophomore Grace DeCarolis and senior Bryn Bocksite combined for six saves, with DeCarolis recording four saves and Bockstie earning two saves.
As a team, the Seahawks put 15 more shots on goal than the Hornets, taking 26 compared to Delaware State's 11. Wagner also corralled six more ground balls than Delaware State, recording 18 compared to the Hornets' 12.
With the win, the Seahawks improve to 5-6 overall with 5-1 mark in conference play. Wagner is currently tied for second in the conference with LIU who also are 5-1 in NEC action.
The Hornets fall to 1-11 on their 2025 season, with an 0-6 record in league play.
Next up, the Green & White will travel to CCSU for a matchup with the Blue Devils on Saturday, April 12. Opening draw control is scheduled for 1:00 pm in New Britain, CT.
