Staten Island, NY — Wagner track and field had a strong weekend of performances at the Rider Relays, ramping up as the Northeast Conference Outdoor Championships approach.
Both teams finished in second place, with the men's team posting a 174 team score, while the women finished their day with a 165 team score.
Freshman Jaden Hobbs finished ninth in the 100-meter dash with an 11.23 time in heat two. Freshman Julio Tatis won the men's 200-meter dash with a 21.80-second time. Joining Tatis in the to ten were Jaden and Jeremy Hobbs in fourth and sixth place, respectively. Tatis also finished in second place in the 400-meter dash with a 47.67 time. Junior Arjanvir Singh finished just behind, with a 50.03-second time that put him in sixth place.
In the men's 800-meter run, senior Johnny Sokoll led the Wagner pack with a 1:54.90 time to finish in third place. Just behind him was junior Hunter Longo, running a 1:55.03 time to finish fourth. Senior Maxime Ricci had a big performance in the 1,500-meter run, logging a 3:57.93 time for second place. Just behind Ricci, junior Michael Ryan's 4:00.48 time earning him fourth place, with sophomore Eric Marquez's 4:04.56 time putting him seventh.
Junior Dante Rodney represented the Seahawks in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing with a 54.77-second heat to finish third. The men's 4x100-meter relay team earned second place with a 41.94-second time, made up of Jaden Hobbs, Tatis, sophomore Shawn Keegan and sophomore Jack Mason.
In the field events, senior Kharlin Watkins continued building on a massive outdoor season with three top-two finishes. He tied for first in the long jump with a 7.08-meter jump, then Watkins also had a second-place finish in high jump with a 1.95-meter clearance. Rounding out his day with a 14.74-meter triple jump, Watkins also placed first in that event. Mason also logged a 7.08-meter long jump to tie with Watkins. Sophomore Khalid Brown finished in fourth place with a 6.84-meter jump, then freshman Ty Lawless followed in eighth with a 6.51-meter jump.
Another top finisher in multiple events, Mason had a 14.16-meter triple jump to place second. Lawless added another eighth place finish with a 12.93-meter triple jump. Freshman Matthew Menechino finished in thirteenth in long jump and ninth in triple jump. Junior Julio Martinez finished at the top of the pole vault with a 4.80-meter clearance. Freshman Amir Shockry was finished fourth with a 4.25-meter clearance of his own.
Junior Franklin Simms had two trop-five finishes in his events, winning the discus throw with a 51.09-meter throw. He also finished fourth in shot put with a 14.48-meter throw. In the hammer throw, junior Christopher Milillo won the event with a 56.84-meter throw, followed just behind by senior Adrian Pocesta with a 52.05-meter throw of his own.
On the women's side, senior Ruth-Ann Chambers won the 100-meter dash with an 11.95-second time. With a close margin between first and second, freshman Christine Manneh finished just behind Chambers with a 12.02-second time. Sophomore June Fernandez finished in eighth, followed by freshman Mia Petersen in ninth.
Chambers also won the 200-meter dash with a 24.68-second time. With a second top-ten finish for her day, Fernandez came in fifth. In the 400-meter dash, junior Angel Okafor finished second with a 58.77-second time.
Junior Laura Trenado won the 800-meter run with a 2:14.60 time, followed by junior Angelina Olah in fourth with a 2:19.19 time. Sophomore Victoria Dziubela finished fifth, then senior Ana Blanco Duran rounded out the Wagner pack in the event with an eighth-place finish.
Sophomore Rylee Ferretti won the 5,000-meter run with a 17:04.70 time. Freshman Ariel Kovach ran a 16.43-second time in the 100-meter hurdles to finish fourth. Junior Angela Cavalieri ran an 11:48.88 time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase
Wagner won the 4x100-meter relay with a 46.86-second time, with Manneh, Chambers, Petersen and Fernandez running. The 4x400-meter relay team, made up of Olah, Trenado, Dziubela, and Blanco Duran, ran a 4:05.59 time to finish third.
Junior Elisa Parazzi had a 1.55-meter clearance in high jump to finish second. Wagner took over in pole vault, with junior Saranda Capani finishing third with a 2.90-meter clearance, tied with her teammate, senior Aileen Hoban. Freshman Nicolina Siracusa rounded out the top five with a 2.60-meter clearance to finish fifth. On top of her track events, Petersen had an 11.67-meter triple jump to finish in second. She also finished third in the long jump with a 5.62-meter jump.
Senior Agathe Yabit finished fifth with a 5.12-meter long jump. She also finished in sixth in triple jump. Sophomore Victoria Gontowicz and junior Julia Garcia finished in ninth and tenth in long jump, respectively. Garcia finished third in triple jump with an 11.40-meter jump.
Sophomore Dayana Rodriguez won the hammer throw with a 46.31-meter throw, while junior Madison Petricevic placed second in women's javelin with a 39.32-meter throw.
Next up, the Seahawks head to the Penn Relays beginning Thursday, April 24. This will be the final meet before the NEC Outdoor Championships begin May 3.
