Staten Island, NY - Senior attacker Ethan Sieb scored his third goal of Friday afternoon's game against the LIU Sharks in overtime to grant Wagner its first win of the 2025 season, 12-11, on Hameline Field.
The Seahawks were able to jump out to a 2-0 lead before the Sharks scored their first goal. Sophomore Ian Muchineuta put the Green & White ahead 3-1 halfway through the period for his second goal of the season.Â
Sieb and senior captain Patrick Caldwell were responsible for Wagner's first two scores, respectively.
LIU scored the final two goals of the opening frame to tie the contest at three after 15 minutes of action.
Sieb began the second quarter as he did the first, scoring less than two minutes into the quarter after being set up by junior Jake Mitchell.
After two LIU scores freshman Sean Sanchez tied the game back at five with 8:39 to play in the period.Â
The Sharks' Ben McIsaac found the back of the net prior to the halftime horn to put LIU ahead, 6-5, after two quarters of play.
In the second half, LIU scored the first two goals to extend its lead to three, 8-5, early in the third quarter.
After a pair of traded goals by Wagner's Mitchell and LIU's Mark Regan, the Seahawks would string together a 5-0 run stretching thirteen-and-a-half minutes from the end of the third to the middle of the fourth.
Caldwell scored with 3:57 left in the third quarter, while Sanchez scored with 3:00 left in the third.Â
Junior Smith Callaghan opened the final frame for the Seahawks with a goal with 11:23 remaining in the game. Mitchell scored his second of the game with 8:12 to go before sophomore Danny McMahon scored his team-high 15th goal of the year with 5:30 remaining to grant the Seahawks an 11-9 lead.
Two straight LIU goals extended the contest into overtime, the first of such for Wagner on the season.
1:32 into the overtime period, Sieb connected on his third goal of the contest to secure the Seahawks their first conference victory of the 2025 season.Â
As a team, Wagner outshot LIU, 40-35, while getting two more shots on target, 26-24.Â
In net, sophomore Angus Snow saved 18Â shots en route to his first win as a member of the Green & White.
With the win, the Seahawks climb to 1-9 on the 2025 season, with a 1-2 mark in Northeast Conference (NEC) play.
With the loss, the Sharks' seven-game win streak comes to an end as LIU falls to 7-2 overall with a mark of 2-1 in conference play.
Next up, Wagner will travel to Le Moyne for a noon face-off against the Dolphins on Saturday, April 5 in Syracuse, NY.
