Softball Drops Double-header At Seton Hall

South Orange, NJThe Wagner College softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to Seton Hall on Tuesday, March 25.

Game 1: Seton Hall 23, Wagner 0


In the first game, Seton Hall came out strong, scoring five runs in the first inning. The Pirates continued their run which ultimately resulted in the final score of 23-0 taking game one. 


In the circle, junior Emma Crosby started and pitched three innings, allowing nine hits, twelve runs, and striking out two batters. Junior Sophia Schmeglar relieved Crosby, pitching 0.1 innings, giving up one hit, seven runs, and four walks. Freshman Ripley Barry closed out the game, pitching 0.2 innings and allowing two hits and four runs.


Game 2: Seton Hall 8, Wagner 2


Seton Hall struck first again in Game 2, scoring two runs in the opening inning. The Seahawks responded in the top of the second when sophomore Brityn Buchanan singled with an RBI, driving in freshman Alayna Giampolo to get Wagner on the board.


The Pirates answered with two runs in both the third and fifth innings, extending their lead to 6-1. In the top of the sixth, junior Geanice Morales singled up the middle, and Giampolo crossed the plate again, bringing the Seahawks' total to two runs.


Seton Hall added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to push the score to 8-2. Wagner had a chance to close the gap but couldn't capitalize, finishing the game with three runners left on base.


Sophomore Sam Estrada was the starting pitcher, pitching six innings, giving up ten hits, eight runs, and five walks.


Next up, the Seahawks will travel to Teaneck, NJ, to face NEC rival Fairleigh Dickinson in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 29.
