Flavio Vinci Returns To NCAA Championships

University Park, PA Sophomore Flavio Vinci of the Wagner College men's fencing team is set to make his return to the NCAA Championship, earning a qualifying spot at the event hosted by Penn State.

Vinci will compete in the men's sabre rounds in the afternoon of Thursday, March 20 and morning of Friday, March 21st, and will aim to advance to the championship bouts on Friday evening.

Last year at the NCAA Championship, Vinci finished in 13th place, securing 11 victories, and was 1 point away from NCAA All-American status.

In his second season on Grymes Hill, Vinci has had a standout year with a 50-38 record. In his freshman season, he led the men's and women's teams with an impressive 73-20 overall record.

Vinci also made a mark at the Mid-Atlantic/South Regional Championships this past weekend, securing seventh place, a program record.

Coach David Sierra has this to say, "Flavio is a strong performer, whose leadership on and off the fencing strip has been a central component of our building successes. This selection is a reflection of his hard work, discipline, and steadfast dedication to personal and program improvement."

As he returns to the national stage, Vinci will be looking to make history once again and earn an even higher finish than last year's performance.
