Women’s Basketball Falls To Stonehill In NEC Tournament Quarterfinal

Easton, MA - The Wagner women's basketball team fell to Stonehill, 72-50, in the quarterfinal round of the NEC Tournament Monday night at Merkert Gymnasium.

The Skyhawks entered the postseason as the No. 2 seed while Wagner entered at the No. 7 seed.

Graduate student Taleah Washington led the Seahawks with 12 points while playing all 40 minutes. Redshirt sophomore Klea Kaci and junior Hawa Balde-Camara each added eight points off the bench.

Stonehill set the tone early, shooting an impressive 52.94% from the field in the first quarter and knocking down four three-pointers to establish a 23-8 advantage. Wagner struggled to find its offensive rhythm, while the Skyhawks capitalized on fast-break opportunities and efficient shooting. By halftime, Stonehill had extended its lead to 41-20.

Despite brief moments of momentum in the second half, Wagner was unable to cut into the deficit. The Skyhawks stretched their lead to 56-33 at the end of the third quarter and remained in control the rest of the way.

Stonehill led for all but 18 seconds of the contest and dominated from beyond the arc, connecting on 11-of-24 three-point attempts, while Wagner managed just 3-of-14 from deep. With the win, Stonehill advances to host No. 6 seed Chicago State in the NEC Tournament semifinals on Thursday, March 13.
