Hempstead, NY - The Wagner College men's lacrosse team fell to the Hofstra Pride on Friday evening by a score of 17-5.
With the loss, the Seahawks' record stands at 0-2 on the young season. Hofstra improved to 2-0 after beginning the season with a 20-2 win over Iona.
Junior Jake Mitchell scored Wagner's first goal of the game to tie the game at one five minutes into the first quarter. The St. Louis, MO native has now scored in both of his appearances during his junior year.
Senior Dylan Haase found the back of the net for the first time this season midway through the second to make the score 8-2 in favor of the Pride.
At the half, Hofstra led 9-2 over Wagner.
In the third quarter, the Seahawks matched the Pride's goal total, as both teams scored two goals within the 15 minutes frame.
Senior Ethan Sieb scored the first goal for either side five minutes into the second half, unassisted.
Haase connected from the same spot as his first goal with just under two minutes remaining in the third to earn his second goal of the contest.Â
At the end of the third, the score was 11-4. Hofstra outscored Wagner 6-1 in the final quarter to secure the win, 17-5.Â
Senior captain James Rea added Wagner's last goal of the evening with three minutes remaining in the game, senior Smith Callaghan recorded his first assist of the game and his second of the 2025 campaign.
In net, sophomore Angus Snow recorded 14 saves in 56 minutes as senior Nate Yi saved one shot in his three-and-a-half minutes in the field.
As a team, the Seahawks won 15-out-of-26 (57.7%) faceoffs against the Pride.
Next up, Wagner will welcome Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) member Mount St. Mary's (MD) to Hameline Field on Saturday, February 15. That matchup is set to begin at noon.
