Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College men's lacrosse team fell to the UMass Lowell Riverhawks by score of 13-12 on a sun-splashed Hameline Field on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Danny McMahon scored the first goal of the game for the Seahawks. The Breezy Point native tied the game at one with his second goal of the season just three minutes into the contest.Â
Senior Ethan Sieb added the second goal of the first quarter for the Seahawks as the Green & White trailed 5-2 after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Seahawks would string together four conducive goals to take the lead, 6-5, with 3:57 remaining in the period. Senior Quin Hoke scored the first two goals for Wagner in the second, followed by sophomore Ryan Rossi and senior Patrick Caldwell who were responsible for the other two scores for the Seahawks.
After leading 6-5, UMass Lowell would find the back of the net three straight times to head into the halftime locker room leading 8-6.
In the third, Sieb scored the first second half goal for Wagner with 11:11 left in the frame. Senior Dylan Haase scored his fourth goal of the 2025 season prior to earning an assist on a senior Carson Skinner goal in the middle of the quarter.
Freshman Benjamin McDonnell added Wagner's last goal of the third.
After 45 minutes of play, the River Hawks lead, 11-10.
In the final quarter of play, both teams scored two goals as UMass Lowell would earn its third win of its season, 13-12.
McDonnell netted the Green & White's first goal of the final period with two minutes remaining. For McDonnell, the Killingworth, CT native has scored three goals during his first year on Grymes Hill, the fourth-highest total on the roster.
One minute later, freshman Sean Sanchez notched his first of the game and second of his inaugural year on Grymes Hill.Â
With 1:03 to go, the Seahawks trailed 13-12. Sieb and Sanchez both had shots within the final minutes of the contest in an attempt to tie the game.
However, UMass Lowell would prevail over Wagner in a nail-biting one goal victory.
In net, sophomore transfer Angus Snow saved six shots in 60 minutes for the Seahawks. On the season, Snow has rejected 35 shots while corralling two ground balls during his first season at Wagner.
As a team, the Seahawks picked up 17 ground balls to the River Hawks 13.
With the loss, Wagner falls to 0-4 on its 2025 campaign as UMass Lowell climbs to 3-1.
Next up, the Seahawks will welcome the Monmouth Hawks on Tuesday, February 25 for 2:00 pm opening face-off on Hameline Field.
