FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Wagner College field hockey team (8-11, 6-3 NEC) will take on the defending NEC Champions in the top-seeded Fairfield Stags (14-5, 9-0 NEC) to see who will take the 2025 NEC Tournament crown and earn an automatic bid to the 2025 NCAA Tournament.
Last season's 2024 NEC Championship included the Seahawks and Stags, in a game that saw Fairfield take the crown by a score of 2-1. In their lone meeting earlier this season, Wagner and Fairfield battled into overtime, where the Stags would prevail by a score of 3-2 at the Wagner College Field Hockey Complex.
Fairfield is taking part in its fifth Championship title match in the last seven seasons, while the Seahawks are going to be in the Championship game for the third consecutive year. Prior to last year's defeat at the hands of Fairfield, the Seahawks fell to Sacred Heart in overtime of the 2023 NEC Championship game.
The Seahawks are led by junior forward and All-NEC Second Team member Floortje Leunisse, who scored the lone goal in Wagner's matchup against Saint Francis U in the semifinal round on Thursday. Freshman Julia de Leeuw and senior Hailey Bianchino were also named to the All-NEC Second Team along with Leunisse.
This is the third straight year that Wagner has matched up with Fairfield in the postseason tournament.
The Seahawks-Stags matchup is scheduled for Saturday, November 8 at noon on the campus of Fairfield University.
