Nicholas Romero Named NEC Rookie and Special Teams Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Following a standout performance in Wagner's 23–20 road victory over Saint Francis, freshman kicker Nicholas Romero has been named both the NEC Rookie of the Week and Special Teams Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

Romero played a pivotal role in the Seahawks' second straight NEC win, connecting on three field goals, including the game-winning 28-yard kick as time expired. The rookie from Florida also converted from 37 and 44 yards, accounting for 11 of Wagner's 23 points on the afternoon.

Romero currently sits second in the NEC with nine field goals made this season, while his 44-yard conversion against Saint Francis ranks as the second-longest field goal in the conference this year.

This marks the first time in program history that Wagner has had a player earn both NEC Rookie of the Week and Special Teams Player of the Week honors in the same week.

Graduate student Akil Lampley, senior Jordan Johnson, and sophomore Jayden Brown were also named NEC Prime Performers.

Wagner returns to action on Saturday, November 8, traveling to face Robert Morris at noon in Moon Township, Pa.
