Women's Soccer Set for NCAA Tournament Debut Against No. 7 West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Wagner College women's soccer team will take on No. 7 seed / No. 16 nationally ranked West Virginia in the first round of the NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament on Friday, November 14, at 7 p.m. at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. The matchup will air live on ESPN+ with Nick Farrell and Adam Zundell on the call.

The Series

Friday's matchup marks the first meeting all-time between the two programs. It also represents Wagner's first NCAA Tournament appearance, while West Virginia makes its 24th.

Last Time Out

No. 2 Wagner defeated No. 4 CCSU, 2–1, in double overtime to win its first NEC title in program history on Sunday, November 9. Sophomore Deirdre Meberg scored Wagner's first goal in the 58th minute, and freshman Riley Frederick delivered the golden goal in the 104th minute to secure the championship.

The Seahawks outshot CCSU 22–5 and held a 9–2 advantage in corners. The victory marked the 50th win of head coach Phil Casella's career and clinched Wagner's first NCAA Tournament berth.

Scouting the Mountaineers

West Virginia enters the tournament as the No. 7 seed and the No. 16 team in the nation, earning an at-large bid for its 24th NCAA appearance.

The Mountaineers most recently fell 4–0 to Kansas in the opening round of the Big 12 Tournament. WVU is 23-20-6 all-time in NCAA Tournament action and has earned a postseason bid eight times since 2015, including four trips to the Third Round.

All-Big 12 First Team honoree Taylor White leads West Virginia in goals (10), shots on goal (20), shots (39), assists (8), game-winning goals (4), and points (28).

No Fly Zone

The Seahawks allowed the fewest goals in the NEC this season (17) and recorded a league-best nine shutouts.

Golden Hour

Wagner won both NEC Tournament games in double overtime, with senior Izzy Gomez and freshman Riley Frederick scoring the golden goals.

On Fire

Wagner leads the NEC in total goals (41) and has not lost a match since September 25.

Program Firsts

The Seahawks set a program record with eight conference wins, claimed their first NEC Championship, and earned their first NCAA Tournament appearance.

Up Next

The winner of Friday's contest will advance to face the winner of Sacred Heart and Georgetown on November 20 or 23.
