BALTIMORE, Md. – The Wagner College women's soccer team dropped a hard-fought 1-0 decision at UMBC on Sunday afternoon at Retriever Soccer Park.
After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, UMBC (5-1-2, 0-0 AE) broke through in the 61st minute on a penalty kick to take a 1-0 lead. The goal proved to be the difference as Wagner (1-5-0, 0-0 NEC) was unable to find the equalizer over the final half hour.
The Seahawks created several quality scoring opportunities throughout the match. Junior
Anayah Rivera and sophomore
Madeline Hayes each tested the UMBC goalkeeper in the first half, while juniors
Kara Kilpert,
Hailey Knapp, and
Kelly Gallagher all recorded shots on goal after halftime.
Wagner finished with eight shots, including five on target, while the Retrievers held a 19-8 edge in total shots. Despite the disparity, Wagner limited UMBC to just four shots on goal.

Abigail Marcello made three saves for the Seahawks.
Wagner will continue its road trip on Thursday, Sept. 10, when the Seahawks travel to South Orange, N.J., to take on Seton Hall. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
