RIVERDALE, N.Y. — The Wagner women's soccer team struck first but could not hold off Manhattan, falling 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at Gaelic Park in the Seahawks' first road match of the 2026 season.

Wagner (1-2-0, 0-0-0 NEC) opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when sophomore midfielder Madeline Hayes found the back of the net off a feed from junior forward Kelly Gallagher. Hayes' tally marked the first goal of her collegiate career.

Manhattan (2-1-0, 0-0-0 Metro) answered just 14 seconds later to even the score at 1-1.

The match remained tied through halftime despite Manhattan holding an 8-1 edge in shots and earning seven corner kicks in the opening 45 minutes.

The Jaspers took control in the second half, scoring in the 52nd minute before adding an insurance goal in the 68th minute to extend the lead to 3-1.

Junior goalkeeper Abigail Marcello finished with four saves for Wagner, while Hayes recorded the Seahawks' lone shot on goal. Manhattan outshot Wagner 18-3 and held a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks.

The Seahawks will continue non-conference play on Sunday, Aug. 30, when they travel to Easton, Pa., to take on Lafayette at 1 p.m.
