BRONX, N.Y. — Wagner rounded out its regular season at the IC4A/ECAC Championships on Friday, with five Seahawks logging a new course-best time on the Van Cortlandt course.
Junior Rylee Ferretti led the way for the Seahawks, finishing 19th with a 21:43.8 time in the women's 6K. Her race helped Wagner take home a 15th-place finish with 357 team points.
Senior Laura Trenado finished 31st with a 22:07.2 mark, followed by fellow senior Angela Cavalieri, who clocked in at 22:42.7 to finish 65th. Junior Magui Calvo-Jorge finished 131st with a 23:30.7 time, with freshman Jaslene Merizalde rounding out Wagner's scoring contingent with a 181st-place, 24:36.0 finish.
It was a personal best on that particular course for three members of the women's team — Ferretti, Cavalieri and Calvo-Jorge — who had run races at Van Cortlandt Park before.
Sophomore Florian Hinry led the men's team, running a 25:17.6 time in the 8K to finish 38th. Coming just behind for the Seahawks was graduate Justin Morris, who placed 54th with a 25:33.1 time.
Sophomore Ignacio San Juan was competing in his second meet this season and earned a 196th-place finish, logging a 27:38.2 time. Senior Matthew Seta ran a 28:29.8 time to finish 215th as Wagner's fourth score, a season-best time for Seta by over two minutes. Junior Eric Marquez was the final Seahawk to cross the finish line, logging a 30:16.1 time.
Hinry and San Juan also logged a personal best of their runs on the Van Cortlandt course.
Next up, the Seahawks head to the NEC Championships, hosted by Saint Francis in Tyrone, Pennsylvania at B & D Acre Farms on Saturday, November 1.
