HOLMDEL, N.J. — Wagner opened its 2025 season with impressive performances at the Back to the Bowl meet.
Hosted by the Stevens Institute of Technology, Wagner's women take home the win with a 23-point performance behind senior Angela Cavalieri's first-place finish. The men's team finished in second, with sophomore Florian Hinry also taking home first place.
It was Cavalieri's first individual win and she cruised to a 20:13.70 finish, almost 20 seconds ahead of second-place teammate, sophomore Kate Connolly, who clocked in at 20:32.90 to add two points to Wagner's team total.
Finishing in fourth and fifth place, respectively, junior Victoria Ann Dziubela and freshman Rehanna Syed were close behind. Dziubela ran a 20:46.20, with Syed finishing with a 21:10.10 time in her collegiate debut.
Rounding out Wagner's scoring contingent, freshman Jaslene Merizalde clocked in at 21:32.30 to finish ninth and bring Wagner's total to 23, 34 points less than second-place Stockton. Senior Peyton Miller ran a 22:16.50 and Angel Okafor logged a 24:46.80 as the remaining Seahawks in the race.
On the men's side, Hinry had a closer finish than Cavalieri — his 16:05.90 time for the win was just 0.4 seconds ahead of Jacob Dinerman of Rutgers-Camden.
Joining Hinry in the top five, junior Joel Solomon and graduate Justin Morris finished in fourth and fifth, respectively. Solomon ran a 16:50.90 race, with Morris following at a 16:59.30 pace.
Junior Hunter Longo ran an 18:08.00 as Wagner's fourth score to count towards the team total, then junior Eric Marquez logged a 18:59.30 to round out the 50 points Wagner posted. Freshman Joseph Perazzo made his collegiate debut with a 19:16.60 time and senior Matthew Seta logged a 19:33.90 finish.
Next up, the Seahawks will head to CCSU for the Ted Owen Invite on Saturday, September 20.
