NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — Wagner cross country built success in it's second meet of the season on Saturday at CCSU's Ted Owen Invite.
Graduate Justin Morris led the charge for the Seahawks, holding steady in the leading pack and ultimately finishing sixth. It was a 25:35.50 final time for Morris, which added four points to the Wagner total. Host to the Northeast Conference Championships in 2024, the course was familiar to the Seahawks but an additional 200 meters were added to the men's 8K course to make the total distance an 8.2K course on Saturday.
Sophomore Florian Hinry was Wagner's second finisher at twenty-third, logging a 26:23.50 time to add 17 team points. Junior Joel Solomon ran a 27:18.50 time to round out Wagner's top three, followed by closely by senior Hunter Longo, who ran a 28:34.40 race
Finishing back-to-back junior Eric Marquez logged a 29.24.10 time, followed by senior Matthew Seta (29:33.30). Wagner's men finished with 130 team points to finish sixth of the six teams in attendance.
Wagner's women posted 133 team points to finish fifth of nine teams in attendance. Junior Rylee Ferretti finished ninth to lead the Seahawks, running a 17:44.50 time to add eight points to the total. Seniors Angela Cavalieri and Laura Trenado finished back-to-back, logging 18:44.60 and 18:49.20 times, respectively.
Sophomore Kate Connolly ran a 19:15.20 race, followed by junior Victoria Ann Dziubela with a 19:36.10 time. Junior Magui Calvo-Jorge (19:51.70), Rehanna Syed (20:19.80), Jaslene Merizalde (20:29.50), Peyton Miller (20:37.90) and Angel Okafor (22:59.40) rounded out the Wagner contingent.
The only other women's NEC team at the meet, CCSU, finished in seventh place.
