Women’s Basketball Falls At FDU

Hackensack, NJ - The Wagner women's basketball team (4-10, 1-1 NEC), faced a tough Northeast Conference (NEC) matchup falling to FDU (11-3, 1-0 NEC), 75-49, at the Bogota Bank Saving Center, Saturday afternoon.

Graduate student Julia Fabozzi led the scoring effort for the Seahawks with 17 points (5-of-9 3FG) and seven rebounds. Sophomore Lijirin Doyinsola Modesayor posted eight and five rebounds while junior Hawa Blade-Camara finished with six points and tied a career-high five blocks.

The Knights, who were the NEC Preseason favorites, knocked down four three-pointers and jumped out to a commanding 24-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Seahawks began the second quarter on a 5-0 run to cut the FDU lead to 14. The Green & White continued to battle the Knights as Fabozzi knocked down a three-pointer to end the quarter to bring Wagner within twelve, 33-21.

The Seahawks carried their momentum with another 5-0 run from the Seahawks to begin the second half cut the lead to seven. FDU then responded and shot 58 % in the quarter and as their lead ballooned back to 19 at the end of the quarter. The Knights secured their largest lead of the game, 31, with 2:06 left in the game and continued their run as Wagner received its first conference loss of the season.

The Seahawks will look to bounce back on Saturday, January 11 at the Spiro Sports Center against CCSU. Tip-off is set for 4:00 PM.
