Women's Basketball Finalizes Roster For Upcoming 2024-25 Season

Staten Island, NY - Wagner women's basketball head coach Terrell Coburn has announced the addition of two student-athletes to the roster ahead of the 2024-25 season.

Joining the Green & White for the upcoming year will be junior Hawa Balde-Camara and freshman Elle Johansson, bringing Wagner's roster up to 14.

Along with Balde-Camara and Johansson, freshman Keana Foz, redshirt sophomore Kaci Klea, junior Maria Doreste, junior Irene Fernandez de Caleya, graduate student KC Carter, and graduate student Raneem ElBarky are new additions to Grymes Hill.

"I am thrilled to welcome these two athletes to our team," said Coburn. "Their skill sets nicely compliment the pieces we have on our current roster. I have no doubt that both Elle and Hawa will be instrumental in laying the foundation for what we hope to achieve in the future, as well as our day-to-day success."

Hawa Balde-Camara spent the last two seasons at Queens (NC) where she appeared in 54 games, starting 17. The Pineda de Mar, Spain native averaged 0.7 points per game, 2.3 rebounds per game, and 1.0 block per game.

During her freshman season, Balde-Camara led the team in blocks with 35, totaled 68 rebounds, 14 being offensive, and shot 66.7% from the field. Balde-Camara's 1.3 blocks per game earned her the fourth best mark in the ASUN Conference.

Elle Johansson joins the Seahawks roster after appearing in seven games for Lulea Basket of the Swedish Damligan earlier this year. While with Lulea, Johannson saw 45 minutes of game time, averaging 1.6 points and 0.6 rebounds per game with a 50% success rate from three-point distance.

During the summer of 2023, Johansson played in seven games with the U18 Sweden team of Euro 18 B League, averaging 2.6 points per game, 1.7 rebounds per game, and 1.1 assists per game across 17.3 minutes, highlighted by an eight-point four-assist performance against Austria.

Balde-Camara, Johansson, and the rest of the Seahawks will open their 2024-25 season at the Spiro Sports Center on Monday, November 4 against Saint Elizabeth. Tip-off for that game is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
