Staten Island, NY - Behind the clutch play of sophomore Alana Goldsmith and senior Sam Hughes, the Wagner women's soccer team remained unbeaten at home with a 1-1 draw against Fordham on Thursday night.

In the 67th minute of action, freshman Anayah Rivera dribbled down the endline to set up a potential goal for the Seahawks. After multiple ricochets, the ball found the right foot of Goldsmith well outside the box. The distance didn't matter, however, as the midfielder found the back of the net to level the match at one.

Twelve minutes later, a foul in the box led to a penalty kick for the Rams, spelling trouble for Wagner. But, not only did Hughes clutch up to make the initial save on the penalty kick, but she recovered the rebound as well, sending the Seahawk faithful into a frenzy.

Both plays were crucial to the Green & White moving to 0-0-3 on the year at Hameline Field.

It was a tale of halves as Fordham controlled the time of possession in the opening 45 minutes. The visitor's solid play eventually led to the first goal of the contest in the 35th minute.

Despite entering the half in a deficit, the Seahawks came out of the intermission with new life, leading into the stellar plays by Goldsmith and Hughes.

All in all, Hughes ended the game with six saves, while Goldsmith's lone shot proved to be the difference maker for Wagner as it secured its third result on the season. 

The Seahawks will have a week off before taking part in their fourth home game of the year on Thursday, September 5, against NJIT. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
