Wappingers Falls, NY - The Wagner baseball team's season came to a close on Friday at Heritage Financial Park, dropping its second game of the Northeast Conference (NEC) Tournament to 3-seed Merrimack, 6-3.
The Seahawks finished the year with a 26-30 mark. They bowed out of the NEC Tournament after losses on consecutive days to 2-seed LIU and the Warriors.
After yielding a run in the first, Wagner tied the game up in the second via a double from senior Cole Kumpf. The Warriors, however, rattled off two runs in the next half inning and the Green & White played from behind the rest of the way.
Two RBI groundouts in the fifth and eighth innings were all Wagner would get the rest of the way.Â
Junior Connor Hayden was dealt the loss in the final game of the season after he gave up four runs across five innings of work. Graduate student Alec Burnett lowered his ERA to 2.03 with 1.2 scoreless innings in relief.
