Salisbury, MD - The Wagner baseball team completed a sweep of UMES on Sunday with a 13-4 victory at Henry S. Parker Athletic Complex.
After falling behind for the first time this series, the Seahawks responded with 11 consecutive runs. They scored three runs in the second, five in the third and three in the fourth.
Seniors Cole Kumpf and Ariv Camacho, and graduate student Henry Martinez rattled off three straight RBIs to snatch back the lead in the second. Then, a five-run third was punctuated by a pair of two-RBI hits from senior Chris Conniff and Camacho.
The scoring was then capped off in the fourth courtesy of a two-run home run from graduate student David Melfi, who made his first start since April 7 against Norfolk State.
Junior Bryce Phelps then put the exclamation point on the weekend with a two-run home run in the eighth to make it 13 runs for the Seahawks.
Sophomore Ryan Bilka picked up his second straight win by hurling six innings of one-run ball. He allowed just three hits and struck out six batters. Graduate student Alec Burnett struck out four batters over his two innings of work.
Overall, the Seahawks outscored the Hawks 42-12 to clinch their fourth conference sweep of the season and have rattled off 21 victories over their last 31 contests. They remain in a three-way tie for first place on the Northeast Conference (NEC) leaderboard.
The Green & White will next take on Lehigh in Bethlehem, PA, on Wednesday at 3:00 pm.
