Baseball Picked Second In NEC Preseason Poll

Bridgewater, NJ - The Wagner baseball team has been picked to finish second in the Northeast Conference (NEC) preseason poll, the conference announced Monday.

This is the highest ranking in the preseason poll for the Seahawks since 2021 when they were picked to finish third. Its second place ranking is also the first time Wagner has been picked in the top-two of the preseason poll since it was picked to finish first back in 2010.

The Seahawks garnered two first place votes — the only other team to receive first place votes aside from CCSU, which finished first in the NEC preseason poll for the second consecutive year.

Rounding out the top-three alongside CCSU and Wagner is Sacred Heart, who lost 2023 NEC Player of the Year Sam Mongelli to the MLB Draft in July.

FDU, LIU and Merrimack cap off the top-six in the preseason poll. Coppin State and Stonehill tied for seventh, while UMES and newcomer Le Moyne tied for ninth. Completing the rankings is Delaware State at No. 11 and Norfolk State at No. 12.

With its highest preseason ranking under head coach Craig Noto, Wagner will begin its road back to the NEC Championship Game at North Carolina on Friday, February 16 at 4:00 pm.
