Wagner SAAC, Brendan Johnson Named Recipient Of The 2023-2024 Wagner College MLK Agent Of Change Award

Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and senior Brendan Johnson of the Wagner College football team were named recipients of the Wagner College MLK Agent of Change Award.
 
The ceremony was organized by the Center of Intercultural Advancement Office and the Dean's Office and took place on campus on February 24, 2024.
 
The MLK Agent of Change Award is presented to an agent of change within the Wagner community who embodies Dr. King's vision of servant leadership and understands that "Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase."
 
Apart from Wagner's SAAC and Johnson, Jenna Elsheemy was also honored throughout the ceremony.
 
The keynote address was given by Alexis Watson, who currently serves as the Associate Director of Athletics at McDaniel College and the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belong Advisor to the Northeast Conference (NEC).
 
Apart from being a senior on Wagner's football team, Johnson was elected president of both the Black Student Union and Student Government Association. The Maryland native is set to graduate this May with a degree in Business Management.
 
The mission of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Student Athlete Advisory Committee is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete welfare, and fostering a positive student-athlete image.
 
Former student-athlete recipients of the award include football's Jonathan Irizarry '20 M'21 and former women's tennis standout Vedika Anand '20.
