Brooklyn, NY - The Wagner fencing program concluded its regular season at the Shark Tank Challenge on Sunday at the Steinberg Wellness Center.
The men went 1-2, while the women went 2-1. Both teams picked up victories over Hunter, with the women's team picking up an additional victory over the hosts, LIU.
Against Hunter, the men's sabre and foil squad picked up crucial 5-4 and 6-3 victories, respectively. The sabre squad saw freshmen Theodore Huston and Charlie Dolan put together 3-0 efforts, while the freshman Diego Lara of the freshman squad also went 3-0.
For the women, two 9-0 victories by the sabre and épée dictated the 22-5 overall win. Freshmen Katrina Lu, Morrigan Adams and Alanna Clayton, sophomores Fanny Straub and Sofia Lopez Meneses, and junior Katerina Cervenkova all went 3-0.
In the final victory of the Shark Tank Challenge, the sabre squad led the way once again with a pivotal 7-2 victory. Straub and Adams went 3-0 in the match.
Overall, Dolan collected the top winning percentage for the men with a 7-2 record. On the women's side, freshman Renata Ziganova and Straub each went 9-0 through the three matchups.
The Seahawks will be back in action on Saturday, March 9, at the Mid-Atlantic/South Regionals in Madison, NJ.
