SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Junior sabrist
Flavio Vinci was named an All-American at the NC Fencing Championships on Sunday, after he finished 12th in the men's sabre competition. This is the first All-American that Wagner fencing has produced in program history.
Vinci finished the regular season with 49 wins, the most among men's and women's fencers at Wagner. Then, he made it all the way to the semifinal round of the NC Mid-Atlantic/South Regionals and earned an at-large bid to the national tournament on the campus of Notre Dame.
Vinci entered the tournament as the 13-seed in the men's sabre category, then competed through five rounds of bouts. The Grottaferrata, Italy native finished the championships with 11 wins in 23 bouts and a .478 winning percentage, tied for 12th with Sacred Heart's Tolga Aslan. But Vinci's point differential (0) was two points ahead of Aslan (-2), which gave him the tiebreaker and the final All-American spot in men's sabre.
Along with this being the fencing program's first ever All-American, it was also Vinci's highest finish in his championship history, after finishing 16th in 2025, and 13th in 2024.
"Flavio's 12 place NCAA finish and All-American recognition is testimonial to both his hard work and commitment and the growth of the fencing program at Wagner," head coach
David Sierra said. "This is an achievement worth celebrating!"
