Geneva, OH - The Wagner College women's swimming and diving team finished in third place at the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championship on Saturday night at the Spire Institute.
The Seahawks finished with 1098.5 points throughout the five days, only trailing Howard and CCSU in the overall standings. Freshman Rebekka Luoto earned NEC Co-Outstanding Swimmer and Rookie of the Meet. This marks the second consecutive season that a Wagner swimmer has won the Rookie of the Meet award after sophomore Kaan Nalçaci won last year.
The women picked up three straight victories to close out the individual portion of the NECs, with sophomore Aura Vilarrasa, Luoto and fifth year Olivia Bishop earning the hardware.
Vilarrasa recorded a time of 1:59.74 in the 200-yard backstroke. Bishop concluded her final trip to the NECs with a first place finish in the 100-yard freestyle. Lastly, Luoto earned first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:15.82.
To close out the competition, the women's 400-yard freestyle relay team of senior Allie D'Allegro, Luoto, Bishop and Vilarrasa broke the NEC meet record with a time of 3:22.96.
