Women’s Basketball Travels To LIU On Saturday

Brooklyn, NY - The Wagner College women's basketball team will travel to Brooklyn, NY to take on LIU on Saturday, tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm.

Last Time Out
Wagner dropped its fourth consecutive game with a 69-61 loss at CCSU on Thursday evening.

Trailing 41-25 at halftime, the Seahawks outscored CCSU 21-9 in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 50-46 entering the fourth quarter. The Blue Devils held on for the victory.

Freshman Kiera Edmonds notched her third double-double of the season with a career-high 22 points and 11 rebounds.

Defensive DNA
The Seahawks have recorded double-digit steals in 10 games this season. Wagner has had multiple players record multiple steals in 15 out of 24 games this season and in eight out of 12 conference contests.

Wagner ranks 69th in the nation and third in the Northeast Conference (NEC) with 9.3 steals per game. The Seahawks also rank 56th in the nation and first in the NEC with 18.78 turnovers forced per game.

Junior Rakisha Ballinger ranks 43rd in the nation with 2.41 steals per game.

The Arrival Of Kiera Edmonds
Through the last 10 games, Kiera Edmonds is averaging 11.2 and 7.8 rebounds. Edmonds has scored in double figures in seven out of the last 10 contests and has tallied at least nine points in five consecutive games.

The Brooklyn, NY native has recorded a double-double in two out of the last three games. Edmonds tallied 10 points and 10 rebounds against Saint Francis U on February 15 before putting up 22 points and 11 points at CCSU on Thursday night.

Edmonds' nine field goal makes against CCSU was a career-high, her 10.2 points per game through conference play paces the Green & White.

Edmonds' 2.95 offensive rebounds per game sits first in the NEC.

Rakisha Ballinger Doing It All
Over the last eight games, Rakisha Ballinger has scored in double figures six times. During the eight-game stretch, the Hyattsville, MD native has accumulated five steals in a single game on two separate occasions.

Ballinger's 8.6 points per game ranks third on the Seahawks while her 2.5 steals per game ranks first for the Green & White.

Noo The Glue
Taleah "Noo" Washington ranks second in the NEC with 3.6 assists per game. Washington tallied a career-high 29 points in Wagner's last matchup against LIU on January 8. Washington's point total was the most for a Seahawk since former Seahawk Emilija Krista Grava poured in 32 on March 5, 2021.

Washington is second on the Seahawks with 9.2 points and 4.8 rebounds per game through conference play. Washington's 3.8 assists per game in NEC play paces the Seahawks.

Through 10 conference appearances, Washington has recorded over five assists on four separate occasions. The District Heights, MD native has also grabbed five or more rebounds in seven out of 10 conference appearances.

Welcome Back, Julia
Senior Julia Fabozzi made her return to the court on February 15 against Saint Francis U after having ACL surgery on August 4.

Last season, Fabozzi appeared in all 28 games while making 17 starts. The Staten Island, NY native averaged 7.2 points and 3.8 rebounds during the 2022-23 season.

In her third game back in the lineup, Fabozzi scored five points on 2-3 shooting while grabbing two rebounds against CCSU.

Scouting LIU
The Sharks will look to snap a four-game losing streak on Saturday. LIU is 4-8 at the Steinberg Wellness Center this season.

Ashley Austin leads the Sharks with 14.6 points per game while Mariah Elohim is also averaging double figures with 11.8 points per game.

The Series
Wagner is 7-3 all-time against LIU and 3-2 at the Steinberg Wellness Center. The Seahawks have won four out of their last five contests against the Sharks.

Both teams will look to snap a four-game losing streak.

Last Time Against LIU
Wagner picked up its first NEC win of the season with a 75-66 win over LIU at the Spiro Sports Center on January 8.

Taleah Washington's 29 points was a career-high as she shot 8-11 from the floor and 5-6 from three-point range. Washington also had five rebounds, six assists and three steals in the victory.

As a team, the Seahawks shot 50 percent from the field and 60 percent from three-point range.

Wagner will begin its final homestand of the regular season when they welcome Le Moyne to the Spiro Sports Center on Thursday, February 29. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm on ESPN+.
