Staten Island, NY - The Wagner men's and women's track and field teams kicked off their 2024-25 indoor season in impressive fashion, earning seven first-place finishes at the Fast Track Season Opener held Friday at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
For the men, graduate student Michael Hubert (800m), junior Alex Taddeo (200m) and junior Matteo Saulnier (3000m) earned first-place finishes in the season opener.
Hubert claimed victory in the 800m with a time of 1:54.86, followed by freshman Ignacio San Juan in second place with a time of 1:56.07.
Taddeo took the top spot in the 200m with a time of 21.72.
Saulnier led the Seahawks in the 3000m with a time of 8:30.71. Senior Maxime Ricci (8:37.08) ,followed by a strong finish from seniors Maxime Ricci (8:37.08),
Johnny Sokoll (8:38.71), and junior
Florian Hinry (8:41.82), who took the next three spots.
For the women, junior Laura Trenado (mile), senior Ruth Ann-Chambers (500m), and sophomore June Fernandez (400m and 200m) earned first-place finishes.
Trenado turned in an impressive performance in the mile with a time of 4:57.29. Senior Gia Comerford trailed shorty behind for a second place finish and a time of 4:58.69.
Chambers took the top spot in the 500m with a time of 1:15.80.
Fernandez had a standout performance, winning both the 400m (57.36) and 200m (25.13) events to earn two first-place finishes.
Freshman Mia Petersen took second place in the triple jump with a distance of 11.15m (36-7.00).
Senior Elizabeth Szambel placed third in the 5000m with a time of 17:51.56 while freshman Kate Connolly placed fourth in the 3000m with a time of 10:51.97.
Junior Saranda Capani took fourth in the pole vault with a height of 3.30m (10-10.00).
