New Rochelle, NY – The Wagner College men's and women's swimming and diving teams started the season at Iona on Saturday afternoon. On the women's side, Wagner earned victories over Iona and Sacred Heart. On the men's side, the Seahawks fell to Iona.
For the women's team, sophomore
Rebekka Luoto earned a first-place finish in the 200 IM in 2:07.57. Luoto also won the 500 Free in 5:12.24 and 200 Breast in 2:24.45. All three times marked meet records.
Freshman
Mia Goodale won the 200 Free in 1:55.69 and the 100 Free in a meet-record time of 52.86, while freshman
Lovisa Ramsten took first in the 50 Free in 24.67. Freshman
Gaya Savran earned a first-place finish in the 200 Fly in 2:07.47, which is also the fastest mark ever recorded at the meet.
The Seahawks took first place in the 400 Free Relay, with Ramsten, Savran, Goodale, and graduate student
Allie D'Allegro finishing in 3:36.54. In the 400 Medley Relay, Wagner earned a first-place finish in the 400 Medley Relay, with senior
Shamiya Guirre, junior
Lia Vendel, Ramsten, and freshman
Kaylin Lila earning the win in 3:58.92.
On the men's side, junior
Ruben van Gool started his season with a win in the 1000 Free in 9:59.81, while graduate student
Enrico Mancardo took took first in the 50 Free in 21.26, setting a meet record in the process. Sophomore
Nikko Carrillo touched first in the 200 Fly in 1:53.50. Freshman
Max Wameling won the 200 Breast in 2:09.52, a new meet record.
Wagner will return to the pool at Southern Connecticut State on November 1.
