Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Mercyhurst, 2-0

Box Score Erie, PA - The Wagner women's soccer team earned a dominant, 2-0 victory on the road against Mercyhurst Sunday afternoon at Saxon Stadium.

The Seahawks opened the scoring in the 13th minute, as freshman midfielder Deirdre Meberg received the ball and found the upper right corner of the net for the goal. This goal marks Meberg's second goal of her young career and the second in consecutive games. 

The Green & White would go on to attempt eight more shots in the first half as they took a 1-0 lead into the break.

In the second half, senior captain Kayla Barbosa's shot bounced off a Laker defender and past the goalkeeper for another Wagner goal. 

Wagner controlled the run of play on Sunday afternoon, finishing with a 20-6 advantage in shots with 13 being on goal.

In goal, senior Sam Hughes logged two saves en route to her sixteenth-career clean sheet (solo) and fifth of the season. 

The Seahawks (5-4-5, 4-1-1 NEC) extend their win streak to three and will host Howard on Thursday October 17th at Hameline field at 7pm.
