Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College women's basketball team earned its first Northeast Conference (NEC) victory of the season with a 75-66 win over LIU at the Spiro Sports Center on Monday night.
Wagner shot 3-5 from three-point range behind graduate student Taleah Washington's 11 points. The District Heights, MD native also shot 3-3 from three-point range. Wagner took an 18-15 lead into the second quarter.
Wagner outscored LIU 19-15 in the second quarter behind eight points from sophomore Angelie Ricard, Ricard shot 3-5 from the floor and 2-3 from three-point range in the frame.
The Seahawks took a 37-30 advantage into halftime.
In the third quarter, Wagner had a lead as large as 13 as they shot 6-9 from the field and 2-2 from three-point range. The Green & White took a 55-45 lead into the fourth quarter.
Wagner went on to earn its first NEC victory of the season, the win moves Wagner to 4-10 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Taleah Washington led the way with 29 points on 8-11 shooting from the field and 5-6 shooting from three-point range. Washington also tallied five rebounds, six assists, and three steals.
Wagner will be back in action on Monday, January 15 as they will travel to North Easton, MA to take on Stonehill, tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
