Loretto, PA - The Wagner College women's basketball team dropped its Northeast Conference (NEC) opener 64-54 at Saint Francis U on Saturday.
The two sides traded baskets in the opening quarter, the Seahawks and Red Flash entered the second quarter knotted at 16. Graduate student Taleah Washington tallied five points in the first to go along with three rebounds, senior Cyan Dyke also chipped in five points in the frame.
The Red Flash outscored the Seahawks 16-13 in the second quarter, the Seahawks shot 5-11 from the floor in the frame despite being outscored.
Saint Francis U took a 32-29 lead into the second half.
The Red Flash continued their momentum into the third quarter as they outscored the Seahawks 17-13, the Seahawks shot 2-9 from the floor behind Taleah Washington's five points. Saint Francis U took a 49-42 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Red Flash went on to outscore Wagner in the fourth quarter to earn the victory.
Taleah Washington finished with a team-high 15 points to go along with eight rebounds and three assists. Cyan Dyke also scored in double-figures with 11 points on 4-6 shooting from the field and 2-3 shooting from three-point range.
The loss moves Wagner to 3-10 overall and 0-1 in NEC play.
Wagner will be back in action on Monday, January 8 when they welcome LIU to the Spiro Sports Center, tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
