Bridgewater, NJ - Sophomore Ruben Van Gool and freshman Jasu Ovaskainen of the Wagner men's swimming & diving team earned Northeast Conference weekly honors, the conference announced Wednesday.
Van Gool secured his first NEC Swimmer of the Week honor of the season, while Ovaskainen took home NEC Rookie of the Week for the fourth time.
Van Gool continued his dominance in the distance events this past weekend in a dual meet at Binghamton. The Madrid, Spain native churned out first place finishes in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:47.56) and 500-yard freestyle (4:44.12).
Ovaskainen secured two individual victories en route to his fourth NEC Rookie of the Week nod. He came in first in the 100-yard butterfly (48.46) and broke a pool record in the 100-yard backstroke (49.62).
In addition to their weekly honors, Van Gool and Ovaskainen were named NEC Prime Performers alongside sophomores Aura Vilarrasa and Kaan Nalçaci, and fifth year Olivia Bishop.
Vilarrasa, Nalçaci and Bishop performed well at Binghamton, securing a combined five individual victories.Â
