Princeton, NJ - The Wagner fencing team competed in a dual meet at Princeton on Wednesday. The women fell to the Tigers, 17-10, while the men dropped their contest by a score of 18-3.
The women's side saw a valiant victory from the épée squad. Freshman Natalja Stiller and junior Katerina Cervenkova went 2-1 in the competition to help lead the squad to victory. Cervenkova clinched the match-winning point for the Seahawks.
Wagner's foil squad also picked up a 5-4 victory, with freshman Renata Ziganova cruising to a 3-0 record on the day. Despite the two victories in épée and foil, a 9-0 loss in the sabre bouts led to Princeton's triumph.
On the men's side, freshmen Flavio Vinci, Charlie Dolan and Benjamin Tan each picked up victories as the Tigers defended their home.
The Seahawks will get their chance to defend their home when they host the Brian Palestis Memorial Invitational on Sunday, February 4. Vassar, Columbia, Lafayette and Drew will be welcomed into the Spiro Sports Center for the day-long event.
